The globally held electric vehicle races from organizer Extreme E are made possible by the floating heart and base, the St. Helena. On it, cargo, infrastructure and vehicles are transported to the nearest port of the race venues, raising awareness about local environmental issues and minimizing Extreme E's emissions profile.
A trip on the luxuriously renovated St. Helena is a truly unique experience, not only for racing fans!

Please note: The listed routes are one-time departures and are not necessarily repeated in the next racing season!

Exciting freighter travel aboard the St. Helena

Sardinia to South America

HISTORY
Formerly a Royal Mail cargo and passenger ship, she was one of the last two vessels to carry the RMS title. She served as a supply ship and lifeline between Cape Town and the remote British Overseas Territory of St. Helena - a tropical volcanic island in the South Atlantic - between 1990 and 2016.

RENOVATION
The former Royal Mail ship has been under the care of Extreme E for more than two years, during which time it has undergone an extensive, multi-million euro renovation that includes a major mechanical overhaul as well as a complete interior refurbishment, repainting and new branding.

The approach to the interior renovation was to make a significant improvement while having as little impact on the environment as possible. This was achieved through upcycling. Instead of scrapping and replacing the ship, the interior was gutted and refurbished, creating a contemporary, modern look. In addition, the ship features energy-saving LED lights, low-water-use bathroom fixtures and chairs made from recycled plastic bottles collected in the Mediterranean. In the galley, there is a hydroponic system that allows the chef to grow the ship's own herbs and garnishes.

The ship can accommodate up to 175 people, two lounges, an 80-seat restaurant, a 100-seat outdoor deck, an 80-seat presentation area and space for 90 20-foot shipping containers. A crew of 50 lives and works aboard St. Helena during the voyage.
