Cycling and sailing in the Öresund

This varied cycling and sailing trip on the tall ships Atlantis or Antigua takes you through two of the most bike-friendly countries in Europe: Denmark and Sweden. Between Copenhagen and Malmö, you will discover charming towns, historic harbors, idyllic villages and quiet islands along the Öresund - a strait rich in tradition and history.

The journey begins in Copenhagen, where you first cycle along the water to the Hamlet city of Helsingør. You then cycle along the “Danish Riviera” through rolling hills. After a night-time crossing, you reach the Swedish side with Helsingborg and cycle on to the fortress town of Landskrona. From there you cross over to the artists' island of Ven - a scenic and cultural highlight.

A sailing day takes you further south to Køge or Rødvig. The next cycle tours take you to the imposing white cliffs of Stevns Klint before sailing under the Öresund Bridge to Malmö. Here, on the last day, you can choose between a city tour or an excursion to nearby Lund with its famous cathedral. The cruise ends with a festive captain's dinner on board.

Highlights:

  • Cycling in Copenhagen, Helsingør, Ven, Køge, Malmö & Lund
  • Sailing on a traditional tall ship in the Öresund
  • Stevns Klint (UNESCO World Heritage Site) & the artists' island of Ven
  • Perfect combination of nature, culture & maritime adventure

Flexible cycling with guidance

Two experienced tour guides accompany the group on the daily tours and provide helpful information about the route and highlights. Those who prefer to cycle independently can also cycle at their own pace thanks to the free Ride With GPS app and a detailed cycle map (on board).

The stages are moderate, but with occasional climbs and short sections on gravel paths - hence difficulty level 3. With an e-bike, the route is more easily manageable and relaxed to enjoy.

Itinerary

Denmark and Sweden

Cycling & sailing

Day 1: Copenhagen

Arrival and embarkation -
The crew will welcome you on board from 17:30 - the ship is centrally located opposite the opera house. After settling into your cabin, you will enjoy a welcome drink with the captain, tour guide and crew. You will get to know the ship and the itinerary over your first dinner together. The bicycles will be distributed in the evening or the next morning.

Day 2: Copenhagen - Humlebaek - Helsingør (48 km)

Cycle tour along the coast to Helsingør - you start from the ship and cycle past the Little Mermaid and the Kastellet on quiet paths out of Copenhagen. The route leads partly directly along the Öresund, partly through forests and idyllic villages. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is worth a stop along the way. The destination is Helsingør with its charming old town center and the impressive Kronborg Castle - Shakespeare's “Hamlet” backdrop. At the harbor, restored warehouses with market stalls and a maritime museum invite you to take a stroll.

Day 3: Helsingør-Hornbaek-Esrum-Helsingør
(28 or 45 km) | Sailing to Helsingborg

Cycle tour through the Danish hinterland and on to Sweden - After breakfast, you cycle along the “Danish Riviera” with its long sandy beaches to Hornbaek. From there you cycle through rolling hills to Esrum with a stop at the medieval monastery by the lake.

The route continues through fields and past castles back to Helsingør. If you prefer a shorter trip, you have more time to explore the city. In the evening, the ship takes you to Helsingborg in Sweden - a historic city with a modern flair that is wonderful to explore on a walk.

Day 4: Helsingborg - Landskrona (28 km)
Ferry to Ven | Ven tour (approx. 10 km)

Coastal ride to Landskrona & Island experience Ven - In the morning you cycle along the Swedish coast through the province of Skåne to the fortress town of Landskrona. On the way you will pass beaches and the charming fishing village of Borstahusen with its old houses. The well-preserved and impressive citadel of Landskrona dates back to the 16th century!
At lunchtime, a ferry will take you to the small island of Ven - a quiet paradise with only around 400 inhabitants. Discover the island by bike: charming courtyards, artists' studios, a whiskey distillery and Tycho Brahe's historic observatory await you. The tender picks you up again in the late afternoon and the ship anchors off the island overnight.

Day 5: Sailing from Ven to Køge or Rødvig

Sailing day towards southern Denmark - Today, bikes and guests stay on board: the ship sails - in good weather under full sail - from Ven southwards under the Öresund Bridge. The destination is Køge or Rødvig, depending on the wind. We moor in Køge and spend the night at anchor in Rødvig.
Enjoy the day on deck and the view of the striking white cliffs of Stevns Klint, a geological highlight between the two towns. The region is known as a “dark sky area” - an impressive starry sky can be seen here at night when the sky is clear.

Day 6: Rødvig - Stevns Klint - Køge (30 km) or round trip Køge - Stevns Klint - Køge (58 km)
Sailing from Køge to Malmö

Cycle tour to the cliffs of Stevns Klint - If your tour starts in Rødvig, the dinghy will take you ashore. From there you cycle to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Stevns Klint with its impressive chalk cliffs, the cliff church and the village of Højerup. Then continue to Køge, where you can explore the medieval town center.

If you start directly in Køge, the route is longer, but also takes you to the cliffs and back. The ship departs Køge in the late afternoon and sets course for Malmö.

Day 7: Malmö round trip & surroundings (26 km)
or Malmö - Lund - Lomma - Malmö (49 km)

Last cycle tour: Experience Malmö or Lund!
On the last day you have the choice: a short tour takes you through Malmö's center and green outskirts to the viewpoint with a view of the Öresund Bridge. The afternoon is at leisure.
The longer day tour takes you to lively Lund - one of Sweden's oldest cities. Discover the old town and the imposing 12th century cathedral. Return along the coast - with time for an ice cream or a refreshing swim. In the evening, the festive Captain's Dinner awaits you on board.

Day 8: Malmö | Farewell after breakfast

After a final breakfast together on board, it's time to say goodbye.
Disembarkation is at 9:30 am.
The Malmö train station is only a few minutes' walk away - from here you can easily reach the airport or the center of Copenhagen.

The bike tours on most cycle and boat trips are easy, as the landscape is very flat. This means that the routes are also suitable for less fit people. The daily distances are between 25 and 60 km, although on some days there are options to extend or shorten the tours. If you simply want to relax for a day in between, make yourself comfortable on board.

For trips with higher fitness requirements, the route lengths are adjusted accordingly. You will find more detailed information in the respective tour descriptions.

For individual cycle tours, you will receive information material and maps for the daily cycle tours, which will be explained in advance by the on-board tour guide.

Your ship usually docks in or near the center of your destination so that you can take a stroll through the city in the evening.

In the morning there is a rich cyclists' breakfast, usually in buffet form. Here you can put together a packed lunch consisting of sandwiches, fruit, a snack and a drink. After breakfast or after a stage by boat, you go ashore and start your cycle tour. The daily routes are planned so that there is enough time for sightseeing and breaks.
In the afternoon or evening, you rejoin the ship at an agreed meeting point and are welcomed on board with coffee and tea. In the evening, the chef serves a three-course meal or a buffet. Drinks are available at the ship's bar.

The bikes on board are unisex city bikes with a low entry and an upright and comfortable seating position:
