Overview South Africa - St. Helena - Namibia Freighter trip from Cape Town Route (sections possible):Cape Town/ South Africa - Rupert's Bay/ St. Helena/ Great Britain - Ascension - Rupert's Bay - Walvis Bay/ Namibia - Lüderitz/ Namibia - Cape Town Departures: once a monthFare: from 110 EUR per day Your adventure aboard a cargo ship – from Cape Town to St. Helena Experience a journey of a special kind: aboard a cargo ship, you will travel from Cape Town to the remote island of St. Helena, in the middle of the endless blue of the South Atlantic. This extraordinary sea voyage offers a rare opportunity to experience life on the high seas up close – far removed from classic cruises. Bookable as a round trip from and to Cape Town or as partial routes. The mysterious island of St. Helena is of volcanic origin and belongs to the British Overseas Territory. It is located about 1,860 km off the west coast of Africa – a secluded jewel in the middle of the ocean. Rugged cliffs, lush landscapes, and the highest point on the island at 818 meters dominate the landscape. Around 4,700 inhabitants live here, shaped by traditions and fishing, which is still one of the most important industries. Your ship will dock in the port of Rupert's Bay. Every fourth voyage also calls at the neighboring island of Ascension before returning to Cape Town via Walvis Bay and Lüderitz in Namibia. The shipping company currently offers one departure per month. The departure period is between the 1st and 31st of each month, with the exact embarkation dates being determined about six weeks before departure. On the return journey, the ship anchors off Cape Town for about a week without the possibility of going ashore early, which offers additional time for relaxation on board. Please note: Due to the modest size of the ship and the open sea, travelers should not be prone to seasickness– waves in the South Atlantic can be quite strong at any time of year! Shore leave in Ascension and Walvis Bay is unfortunately not possible. Excl. harbor dues, deviation insurance and Visa. Incl. atmosfair CO2 compensation (23 €/to CO2). South Africa only requires seafarers to be vaccinated against yellow fever when entering the country (because it is feared that they may have traveled in yellow fever areas in the past). If you enter South Africa directly (by plane and demonstrably not via a yellow fever area), you do not need a vaccination to enter the country. And you can of course leave the country by any route without a yellow fever vaccination. If you dembark in Durban and travel home northbound, you will enter Cape Town by sea - and the authorities will then want to see a yellow fever vaccination.
